Logos designed on strategy, not guesswork.

LOGO DESIGN IRELAND

Most businesses searching for a logo designer don’t actually need just a logo. They need clarity about how their business should look, speak, and position itself in the market.

Every identity I design starts with a conversation about your ambitions and goals, your market, your competitors, and the customers you want to win, then I design and build a logo and branding system that works commercially from day one.

A LOGO WITHOUT STRATEGY IS JUST DECORATION.

WHY MOST LOGOS FAIL

A logo usually isn't the problem.

Most Irish businesses searching for a logo designer already have a logo. What they don't have is a brand that positions them clearly enough to win the right clients and lose the wrong ones.

A logo is a mark.

Branding is the system and meaning behind that mark.

It's the positioning, the tone, the clarity of what you do and who it's for. Without that system, even the most beautiful logo struggles to do any real commercial work.

That's why every logo and identity I design starts with strategy first:

  • Discovery session

  • Research and analysis

  • Audience and positioning clarity

Only then does the visual identity design begin. In that order. Always.

STEP 01

You start searching for a logo designer

Something about your brand isn't working. Maybe the logo feels outdated, the business has grown, or the market has become more competitive. You know you need something better, even if you're not sure exactly what yet.

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 02

Discovery: We have an honest conversation about your business, not just the brief

Who are you? What makes you different? Who are your best customers? Who are your competitors? What makes you the obvious choice, or what should?

This stage creates the strategic foundation the identity will be built on.

STEP 03

Strategy shapes the identity

Positioning, tone, and visual direction are defined before any logo concept is designed. This ensures the identity reflects how your business should be perceived in the market. This is what separates a strategy-led brand identity from a logo designed in isolation.

STEP 04

A brand identity that does the heavy lifting

Logo, colour palette, typography, and brand guidelines, designed to help your business:

  • look credible from first contact

  • stand out clearly from competitors

  • attract the right clients consistently

Not just look good on a business card.

When John O'Sullivan launched his independent estate agency in South Dublin, he entered one of the most competitive property markets in Ireland.

His starting point was a downloaded template logo and no website. After defining the brand positioning and designing a strategy-led logo, visual identity and website, the business launched with a clear and credible presence.

The logos and The thinking behind them.

Every logo design project started with a strategic challenge.

Beside each logo you'll find the brief, the situation the business was facing and the solution: the thinking and design decisions behind the identity.

Because a logo isn't just a graphic. It's the visual expression of how a business wants to be understood.

AI & SAAS · HVAC TECHNOLOGY

IntelliOps

Logo design for Intelliops - AI-powered HVAC maintenance platform - created by Barry O'Connor, Dublin

THE BRIEF

IntelliOps is an AI-powered HVAC maintenance platform entering a traditionally conservative and technically complex industry. The HVAC sector has long operated on reactive, time-and-material contracts, faults found late, energy wasted without visibility, service measured by activity rather than outcomes. As a new entrant, IntelliOps needed more than a visual identity: a clear strategic position, a distinctive brand, and a digital presence that could communicate credibility and value from day one, without falling into generic "blue tech" territory or drowning the proposition in technical complexity.

THE SOLUTION

Strategy came first. The positioning shifted the narrative from monitoring software to AI maintenance assistant that delivers measurable outcomes, structured around three pillars: see everything, predict failures, deliver results. The mark encodes this thinking precisely: a refined node-cluster form where the central vertical references the I and the surrounding negative space creates the O, input/output, the fundamental language of connected systems. The node geometry reinforces data flow, real-time connectivity, and networked infrastructure. A deliberately unconventional Electric Luxe palette, deep purple and solar yellow, cuts through the blue-and-green ubiquity of every competitor in the space. The landing page carried the strategy through to a focused, conversion-driven experience: calm, confident, and outcome-led throughout.

PROPERTY & REAL ESTATE

John O’Sullivan Property Consultant

Logo design for John O'Sullivan Property Consultant - created by Barry O'Connor Design, Dublin

THE BRIEF

After many years working within major estate agency firms, John O'Sullivan launched his own independent property consultancy serving South County Dublin. Entering a competitive market dominated by large corporate brands, he needed a brand identity that would quickly establish credibility while reflecting his calm, honest, and highly personal approach to helping clients buy and sell property.

THE SOLUTION

The logo mark combines the O and S from John's surname to create a distinctive symbol that simultaneously reads as a compass — representing guidance, direction, and local expertise. The compass subtly points toward South County Dublin, the core market John serves. Combined with bold, confident typography and a restrained colour palette, the identity positions the business as a trusted, boutique property consultancy rather than a corporate agency. One mark. Three meanings. Entirely his.

FITNESS & PERSONAL COACHING

Logo design for Sean Kennedy Fitness - created by Barry O'Connor Design, Dublin

Sean Kennedy Fitness

THE BRIEF

After years building a loyal client base, Sean Kennedy's branding was letting him down. His coaching goes far beyond typical gym sessions, blending physical fitness with mindset, consistency, and long-term lifestyle change, but his existing identity made him look like every other trainer: generic, forgettable, and disconnected from his philosophy. He needed a brand that communicated balance, credibility, and purpose from the outset.

THE SOLUTION

A strategy-led identity built around a single thematic core: balance. The custom SK monogram merges Sean's initials into a dynamic symbol suggesting movement, alignment, and energy, without the aggression of typical fitness branding. A fresh, uplifting colour palette replaces the clichéd red-and-black of the fitness market. The tagline "Find Your Balance for Life" distils Sean's philosophy into a single line. The result positions him as a serious, credible coach who attracts clients seeking long-term, sustainable change.

CONSTRUCTION & PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Logo design for Foxstone Construction - created by Barry O'Connor Design, Dublin

Foxstone Construction

THE BRIEF

Foxstone launched as a new construction and property management company in South Dublin, founded by a team with over 40 years of combined industry experience. Entering a market dominated by generic visuals, hard hats, house icons, templated logos, they needed an identity that immediately communicated premium quality and professionalism, and gave homeowners across South Dublin an immediate reason to trust a newly established name.

THE SOLUTION

The mark draws on Foxrock's local heritage, a simplified fox-head silhouette referencing the foxes that once roamed the area. The symbol communicates agility, intelligence, and adaptability: qualities that translate directly to construction. A warm amber accent in the ear detail grounds the mark in place without being literal. Strong contemporary typography and a refined palette complete an identity that feels modern and premium, immediately distinguishing Foxstone from every competitor in the space.

CRAFT & DESIGN RETAIL GROUP

Logo design for The Design Corner - created by Barry O'Connor Design, Dublin

The Design Corner

THE BRIEF

The Design Corner is a curated retail initiative showcasing the work of 30 independent craft designers and makers, supported by the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Local Enterprise Office. As a new brand entering both physical retail and e-commerce, it needed a cohesive identity that could unite a diverse community of creators under one umbrella, while working seamlessly alongside the Local Enterprise Office's existing visual system and driving footfall and online sales from launch.

THE SOLUTION

A minimalist geometric D-form, constructed from simple shapes, references the letter while communicating unity, structure, and craftsmanship. The notched corner detail gives the mark personality and avoids the blandness of a pure letterform. A bold crimson palette and heavy condensed wordmark give the brand an energy and confidence that holds its own alongside the LEO identity without competing with it. The system expanded into a complete design ecosystem: colour, typography, packaging, signage, marketing templates, and e-commerce WEBSITE, plus a secondary Love Design mark for community and promotional use.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILDING

Douglas & Stewart Construction

Logo design for Douglas and Stewart Construction - created by Barry O'Connor Design, Dublin

THE BRIEF

Douglas & Stewart is an Irish building and conservation contractor delivering projects across residential, commercial and heritage sectors. Named after the owners' two dogs, the business already had a memorable and personal foundation, the challenge was to build a brand mark that could honour that story while presenting the company as a credible, modern construction firm capable of competing for larger, more complex projects.

As the business grew, their existing identity no longer reflected the professionalism, scale or expertise of their work. The new identity needed to feel strong, distinctive and professional, working consistently across everything from site signage and vehicles to tender documents and digital platforms.

THE SOLUTION

The mark takes its inspiration directly from brickwork, the offset horizontal pattern of a real brick course, abstracted into a clean geometric form. The three offset bars encode the D and S initials while simultaneously referencing the core material of construction: strength, stability, resilience. A mark that means more the longer you look at it.

The symbol works alongside a confident, modern wordmark to create a flexible identity system, with badge variations and icon formats that allow the brand to adapt across signage, documentation, vehicles and digital use while maintaining strong visual consistency. The result balances personality and professionalism: a construction brand with a real story behind the name, and a mark built to communicate the quality of the work.

COMMON QUESTIONS

  • A logo is a mark, a symbol or wordmark that identifies your business visually. A brand identity is the complete system built around that mark: colour palette, typography, visual language, tone of voice, and the strategic positioning that tells people not just who you are, but why they should choose you over the alternative. A logo without a brand identity is like a name badge without a person behind it.

  • A strategy-led brand identity project typically takes 6–8 weeks from kick-off to final delivery, depending on scope and how quickly feedback rounds move. This includes discovery sessions, research, concept development, refinement, and delivery of all assets, brand guidelines and website UX/UI design.

  • You can and for a temporary placeholder, it might be fine. But AI logo tools and generators can't do the strategic work: they don't know your competitors, your target clients, your positioning, or what makes you the obvious choice in your market. They produce a mark. What converts clients is the thinking behind the mark, and that requires a conversation, not a prompt.

What you need to know.

  • Yes, all projects are conducted remotely via video call with no loss of quality. Discovery sessions, presentations, and feedback rounds all work well online. Past clients have been based across Dublin, Ireland, and internationally. Location is no barrier to working together.

  • Every project delivers a complete, production-ready identity package: final logo and all variations (primary, secondary, icon only), colour palette with print and digital values, selected typography, logo or brand guidelines document covering usage rules, and all file formats (SVG, PNG, PDF, EPS) organised and labelled for use by printers, web developers, and social media.
